But given the group's commitment to their long-term development project, it's not surprising that they didn't perform at their best in the Nations Championship matches in South Africa. Now, as the Boks prepare for the all-important series against the All Blacks, the question is: will they show their true tactical hand? The Boks are holding something back, out of respect for the All Blacks and possibly for coach Dave Rennie, who has made an impressive start under his leadership. The All Blacks have won all three of their matches in the Nations Championship, and their attack has impressed. However, it's unlikely that Rennie will have enough time to develop other aspects of their game before the Greatest Rivalry series. The Boks, on the other hand, are likely to stick to one approach in each of the four Tests against the All Blacks, given the varying conditions on the highveld, in Cape Town, and in Baltimore. Come the first Test at Ellis Park on August 22, we will finally see what Erasmus has been building. And going by that performance and result, we will have a better idea of how far this team has come, or what they need to address in order to realize their long-term goals.
