Result Japan has taken the iconic Toyota GT86 and given it a stunning transformation into an AE86 homage. This is the kind of showcase that Japanese motor shows should be all about - a product preview that goes beyond mobility solutions and screens, and instead focuses on a lovingly crafted tribute to a classic. The Neo86 bodykit, crafted by Result Japan, is an upgrade that encourages buyers to 'enjoy the ZN6 to the fullest'. The GT86's product code, if you didn't know, is ZN6. And enjoy it they surely will, because this appears to be a beautifully done tribute. The front end, in particular, looks great with the pop-up lights, flattened bonnet, black bumpers, and yellow fog lights. There's a subtle nod to the Celica ST185 in the Neo86 as well, which is a welcome addition. While the Initial D tribute act isn't mandatory, it suits the 86 of the 2010s as well as the original of the 80s. The overhaul makes for a much wider and lower 86, with cheeks that are seriously puffed out like a proper tuner special. But with wheels brought out to meet the bodywork, a new rear spoiler to enhance the impression of width, and black sections, the Neo avoids appearing totally preposterous. Just a bit OTT in the best modified tradition. You're never going to mistake it for standard, even in a less recognizable color scheme. Result Japan has left the 200hp boxer alone for the Neo86, which is understandable; they've had plenty to keep occupied with, after all, and you wouldn't want a turbocharger or similar distracting from the amazing visual overhaul. But as an actual owner of a Neo86 like this, you'd surely crave a bit more power, given how much wider the tracks and tyres now look. Imagine a GT86 that looks like an AE86 that you couldn't skid - what would be the point? Result Japan will give this bodykit its public debut at the Tokyo show later this week; even with Toyota's latest and greatest also set to be shown, the Neo is surely going to be attracting plenty of attention. Pre-orders will open at the same time. The news gets better, too, as the hope is that this will be available outside of Japan as well. In a recent Instagram post, Result said: 'It is expected that it will soon be available for purchase not only in Japan but around the world.' What a sight on the A40 this would make. Just a shame, really, that used GT86s don't seem to be getting any cheaper...
