Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping spectacle as the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit gears up for the Penrite 100 Classic! With a massive entry of 363 vehicles, this event promises to be an automotive extravaganza like no other.
The excitement doesn't stop there. For the first time, the Penrite 100 Classic will be live-streamed on Blend Line TV, thanks to a new deal that will also cover the Winton Festival of Speed later this year. So, if you can't make it to the circuit, you won't miss a moment of the action!
Tickets are now available, and the organizers, VHRR, are thrilled with the response. Mike Herlihy, VHRR Vice-President and Phillip Island Classic Director, shared his enthusiasm: "It's incredible to see historic motorsport thriving. Phillip Island has consistently proven itself as the premier race meeting in the region."
But here's where it gets controversial...
The main event will showcase two massive groups: Group N and Group S. Touring cars will take center stage with 60 entries, while sports cars will bring 59 nominations. Group N features pre-1972 tin-top cars, ranging from iconic Mini Coopers to powerful Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs. These muscle cars will face off against a diverse range of competitors, including Mazda RX-2s, Holden Torana XU-1s, and Ford Falcons.
Group S, on the other hand, pits American muscle against European precision. Chevrolet Corvettes will battle it out with Porsches, a De Tomaso Pantera, and a Ferrari 308. And let's not forget the lower-capacity cars that always keep the heroes on their toes!
For fans of the golden era of touring cars, the 34 genuine Group C and A cars will be a treat. This diverse entry list includes Ford, Holden, Nissan, BMW, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and Mazda.
But wait, there's more! Contemporary 5-Litre Touring Cars will hit the track for some SuperSprints, featuring modern V8 Bathurst winners and stunning early model reproductions. This mix includes an ex-Dick Johnson EB Falcon and Marcos Ambrose's last Supercars Falcon.
Open wheel enthusiasts will also be in for a treat with a variety of racing and sports cars from Groups P, Q, and R. The ever-popular F5000S will bring 15 nominations, while a full field of 32 Formula Fords will showcase the art of slipstreaming.
Classic M and O Sports and Racing have gathered 25 nominations, and the earlier J, K, and L field is bolstered by the competitive Formula Vees with 39 starters.
To top it all off, a regularity trial with 40 machines will bring together a wild assortment of vehicles, creating an eclectic mix of automotive history.
