Breaking News: Ontario's Racetrack Scene is Revving Up!
On December 30, 2025, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) gave the green light to two more Standardbred racetrack associations, marking a significant development for horse racing enthusiasts. This means more opportunities for both the sport and the local economies involved.
The lucky recipients of these licenses are Kawartha Downs and Rideau Carleton Raceway. This is great news for fans and participants alike!
But here's where it gets exciting...
The AGCO is currently awaiting race date recommendations from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) and Ontario Racing Management (OR). These recommendations will cover the period from April to December 2026. The Registrar's approval is expected in the coming weeks, and the finalized race date calendars will be released as soon as possible after the decision. Keep your eyes peeled for those dates!
A Growing Roster of Racetracks
As a reminder, the following Standardbred racetrack associations have already been granted licenses: Clinton Raceway, Dresden Raceway, Flamboro Downs, Georgian Downs, Grand River Raceway, Hanover Raceway, Hiawatha Horse Park, The Raceway at Western Fair District, and Woodbine Mohawk Park. That's a lot of racing action to look forward to!
One more track, Leamington Raceway, has a license issuance pending.
