New AirPods Pro 3 firmware just dropped, along with updates for AirPods Pro 2—and there’s more to come. Here’s what you need to know.
Firmware drops ahead of iOS 26.2
With iOS 26.2 expected to arrive imminently, Apple has released fresh firmware for AirPods. Unlike some updates that share identical builds across models, this time Apple rolled out distinct firmware versions for different devices.
AirPods Pro 3 now run firmware build 8B30 (up from 8B25).
AirPods Pro 2 have been updated to firmware build 8B28 (up from 8B21).
Apple will likely update its AirPods firmware support page to detail the specific improvements in these new releases, but at the moment the page still lists the prior builds.
In most cases, new firmware notes simply mention generic “Bug fixes and other improvements.” However, given how close this release is to iOS 26.2, there’s a chance we’ll see more concrete changes this time. For context, iOS 26.2 is set to expand AirPods Live Translation to the EU.
How to install the latest AirPods Pro firmware
Installing AirPods firmware isn’t as automatic as updating iPhone or Mac software. Follow Apple’s official steps:
1. Ensure your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is on the latest iOS/iPadOS/macOS, and that Bluetooth is enabled.
2. Verify your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your device.
3. Connect the device to Wi‑Fi.
4. Plug in and power the AirPods charging case.
5. Place the AirPods inside the charging case and close the lid. Keep the lid closed and keep the case within Bluetooth range of your device.
6. Wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to install.
7. Open the charging case lid to reconnect your AirPods to your device.
8. Check the firmware version to confirm the update.
