Metro Vancouver Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Unseasonal Warmth Incoming! (2026)

Get ready for a wild weather ride, folks! Metro Vancouver is about to experience a series of storms that will keep us on our toes.

The forecast predicts a wet and windy week ahead, with a unique twist - a potential rise in temperatures!

Environment Canada's meteorologist, Derek Lee, describes it as a continuous flow of moisture from "Pacific systems" that will drench the region until at least Tuesday.

"The rain starts early on Saturday morning and continues non-stop, intensifying as we head into Sunday and Monday," Lee explains.

The first storm on Saturday is expected to bring a decent amount of rainfall, around 15-25 mm, with winds picking up to 40 km/h near the water.

But here's where it gets interesting - a second storm is predicted to be a real doozy! Lee warns us to expect stronger winds and significant rainfall on Sunday.

"We're looking at moderate to heavy rain, with potential rainfall totals still uncertain," he adds.

And this is the part most people miss - the storm's subtropical origins will bring a warm front, raising temperatures by as much as 6 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average!

"Temperatures are already above average, but Monday and Tuesday will be noticeably warmer, with highs of 10-11 degrees Celsius," Lee predicts.

The seasonal average for this time of year is a chilly 6 degrees, so these daytime highs will feel like a heatwave!

With the warmer air, freezing levels are expected to rise to 2,000 meters above sea level, causing snowmelt on our local mountains.

The good news is that the storm should ease off by Tuesday, and a high-pressure ridge should build, bringing some much-needed sunshine by Thursday.

So, there you have it - a wet, windy, and warm week ahead! Stay tuned for more weather updates, and don't forget to share your thoughts on this unusual forecast.

Is this a welcome change, or do you prefer the colder, drier winters? Let's discuss in the comments!
