Harrisburg Area Community College and HACCEA Reach Landmark Agreement
Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) has voted to approve a groundbreaking agreement with the HACCEA union. This decision marks a significant milestone, as it comes after a tentative agreement was voted on by HACCEA on November 20th. The agreement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of HACCEA members, who have been advocating for better working conditions and recognition for the faculty.
"We are thrilled to move beyond the negotiation phase and embrace a new era of stability and growth for HACC," said Amy Withrow, HACCEA's chief negotiator and an esteemed English professor. "This contract is the culmination of years of effort, showcasing the college's commitment to supporting and valuing its faculty."
The new four-year contract, set to take effect in July 2025, promises a brighter future for HACC's full-time and adjunct faculty. One of the key highlights is the provision for partial back pay, covering the three years during which faculty members were denied raises. This ensures that the hard work and dedication of the faculty are recognized and compensated appropriately.
This agreement is a testament to the power of collective bargaining and the positive impact it can have on educational institutions. It sets a precedent for fair treatment and recognition of faculty members, fostering a more stable and productive environment for both educators and students at HACC.
