Gabi Brito and Ty Thomas Dominate at the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Champs - West (2026)

Get ready for an exciting dive into the world of swimming! The 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championships - West just wrapped up, and it was an absolute thrill! Two exceptional swimmers, Gabi Brito and Ty Thomas, stole the show with their incredible performances. But here's where it gets controversial... they didn't just shine individually; their teams also dominated!

Gabi Brito: A Force to Be Reckoned With

Gabi Brito, representing Beach Cities Alpha, dominated the girls' events. With a remarkable 100 points, she left the competition in the dust, outscoring everyone by a significant margin. Brito's versatility was on full display as she competed in six events, making finals in an impressive five of them, and winning them all!

Brito's journey began with a thrilling 200 IM win, just shy of her personal best. She then dominated the 50 free, setting a new lifetime best of 22.09. This swim not only improved her ranking but also secured her a spot on the prestigious all-time 15-16 age group performers list.

Her success continued with a powerful leadoff split in the 400 medley relay, helping Beach Cities Alpha secure a well-deserved second place. But Brito wasn't done yet! She went on to claim the 100 butterfly title with another lifetime best, and then absolutely crushed the 100 back, lowering her best time significantly.

On the final day, Brito won her fifth individual event, the 100 free, with a massive improvement over her previous best. Her performance was a key factor in Beach Cities Alpha's victory, as they took home the girls' and combined team titles.

Ty Thomas: A Rising Star

Ty Thomas, a committed athlete with River City Aquatics, made his mark at the championships. Although he didn't win an individual event, his best finish in the 200 IM was a remarkable achievement. Thomas, with a personal best of 1:44.21, improved by nearly five seconds and secured a top seed. Last year, he just missed the final, but this time, he proved his mettle.

Thomas' performance in the 50 free was equally impressive, finishing fifth with a time just off his best. He then continued his impressive run, lowering his best times in the 100 fly and 100 back. On the final night, he secured a well-deserved third place in the 100 free, dropping over eight-tenths of a second from his best time.

Team Scores: A Battle for Glory

The team standings were just as thrilling. Beach Cities Alpha dominated the girls' and combined team categories, with a remarkable 297 points in the girls' final. Lakeside Aquatic Club and Irvine Novaquatics also put up a strong fight, securing second and third places, respectively.

On the boys' side, Quicksilver Swimming took the top spot with 245 points, followed by Irvine Novaquatics and Waterloo Swimming.

And this is the part most people miss... the combined team standings! Beach Cities Alpha once again proved their dominance, taking the top spot with a combined score of 425 points. Lakeside Aquatic Club and Irvine Novaquatics followed closely behind.

So, what do you think? Were these championships a showcase of individual brilliance or a team effort? Do you think the team scores accurately reflect the overall performance? Let's discuss in the comments and celebrate these amazing athletes and their teams!
