Get ready, EV enthusiasts! Buick is electrifying its Electra Encasa family, and the future looks bright! The all-electric Buick Electra Encasa Pure EV is slated to hit the market in the first half of 2026. This announcement marks a significant step for Buick into the electric vehicle arena. The current Electra Encasa is available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, with prices ranging from 439,900 to 469,900 yuan ($61,800 to $66,000 USD).
The Electra Encasa, which made its global debut at the 2025 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, is the first MPV under Buick's new-energy Electra sub-brand. It's built on the company's "Xiaoyao" architecture and represents the sixth generation of the GL8.
But here's where it gets interesting: the Pure EV version has already been registered with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and its design closely mirrors the existing PHEV model.
The design is inspired by the sleek aesthetics of Gulfstream aircraft, featuring a closed front grille and crystal diamond wing headlight clusters. Its side profile is defined by multiple overlapping waistlines, and at the rear, it boasts the iconic "light feather flame" taillight design.
Let's talk dimensions: the pure electric model measures 5260mm in length, 2000mm (or up to 2023mm) in width, and 1835mm (or 1820mm) in height, with a generous wheelbase of 3160mm.
And this is the part most people miss: the Electra Encasa Pure EV will pack a dual-motor setup. The front motor will deliver 332 kW (445 hp), and the rear motor will provide 150 kW (201 hp). The MIIT has disclosed that the vehicle will offer two pure electric range options: 601 km and 632 km.
Furthermore, the model will feature Buick's latest "Xiaoyao Intelligent Drive" advanced driving assistance system, powered by Momenta's R6 flywheel large model algorithm, enabling urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) assistance. At its heart is Qualcomm’s latest SA8775P chip, delivering 72 TOPS of computing power.
