Two Suspects Detained in the Death of KIU Western Campus Student Linette Karunga in Bushenyi
Two men are in police custody in Bushenyi as investigators probe the death of Linette Karunga, a 21-year-old student from Kampala International University Western Campus whose body was found Monday night in Nyakashebeya Village. Authorities say the suspects, reportedly close to Karunga, are now assisting with the inquiry to uncover the sequence of events surrounding her murder.
In a statement, Bushenyi District Police identified the detainees as Onan Nimwesiga and an unnamed man referred to as Farouk. Both are said to have been romantically involved with Karunga and are central to the early stages of the investigation as officers seek to piece together how she died.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi regional police spokesperson, explained that the two suspects are being questioned to determine the circumstances surrounding Karunga’s death. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations proceed.
“We have two suspects in custody who were close to the deceased, and they are assisting us as we work to establish what exactly happened. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. Public cooperation is essential in helping us bring the perpetrator to justice,” Tayebwa said.
Residents are advised to stay calm and refrain from speculation as the case advances.
